Desert Moon Ornament

Desert Moon Ornament

HK$120.00

Crafted by Malian refugees living in Niger, the metalwork they use to create this crescent moon highlights their impressive heritage techniques used to create both utilitarian and decorative objects. As nomadic pastoralists who traditionally inhabit a vast area in the Sahara Desert, the desert moon is their symbol of protection and prosperity.

The impact

Part of the MADE51 initiative by UNHCR, each handcrafted piece made by refugee artisans tells a story of hope and resilience. Displaced artisans play a key role in keeping the rich cultural heritage of their home alive. Though forced to leave most material things behind, refugees are able to carry their traditions, skills, knowledge and craftsmanship. Refugees around the world have found that these skills can become a lifeline, offering them an opportunity to earn much-needed income, if only given the platform to do so. Support what MADE51 in this work through these handmade gifts.
